The path to today's Ruby Tuesday began in the spring of 1972, when Sandy Beall, our founder, Chairman and CEO, opened the first restaurant near the college campus in Knoxville, Tennessee. It was a very special place, with friendly people and comfortable surroundings, handcrafted burgers, huge salads, appetizers to share, and drinks made to order. Sound like a place you know? Sounds like your Ruby Tuesday today. That original focus on quality, freshness, and value - the ability to exceed the expectations of guests, make them feel relaxed and welcome, and give them plenty of reasons to come back - are just as much the focus now as they were in the beginning.
From that first Ruby's to more than 900 today, the company grew from a small collection of privately owned restaurants to be the biggest and most profitable part of a large public company founded in 1972, and then to become, in 1998, an independent public company, traded on the New York Stock exchange, with one of the most recognized and popular brands in the food service industry. Through the years, Ruby Tuesday has created financial rewards for its investors, jobs for hundreds of thousands of people - some part-time while they got an education or helped raise a family and some who made it a career - and been a favorite place for good times, great food, and real value for millions of guests all across America and around the world.
